Vice President Leni Robredo : Democratic institutions eroding.




Today as a country we are  commemorating our 119th Independence Day anniversary.

In Manila, the Vice President lead the flag raising ceremony in the absence of the President Duterte, attended a forum at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.

Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni Robredo delivered the keynote address of the “Defend Democracy Summit” at the University of the Philippines, School of Economics.

The core of her speech was the message of “Defending democracy is our biggest fight today.” She relays the concept of democracy as a way or means to uplift the common Filipino from poverty.

The Vice President described what is happening in the country today as “extraordinary times”.

“These are extraordinary times. If you’re not able to lay aside our differences and talk to one another, we will be fighting enemies within as well as without,” Robredo said.

She adds that the institutions founded by democracy before are not the way it used to be, that these institutions must be streghten in order for it to “to create a nation strong enough in these extraordinary times.”

The Vice President relayed in her speech the need to “buils bridges of understanding, not walls”. “Let us bury our egos and pride and let emphathy arise”.

“We are already seeing our institutions being eroded. They are already weakening. We must move swiftly an effectively to ensure they are strong enough for our children and our children’s children,” Robredo said.

“Let us not defend democracy as a concept but as a means to lessen sufferings of our people,” the VP said.

Martial Law in Mindanao


Currently the  Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police, on its 3rd week are still facing head on the ISIS threat in Mindanao. In Marawi City the battle continues against IS inspired Maute group + Abu Sayyaf Group. This after the President declared the whole of Mindano in martial law and the suspension of the writ of habeas corpus
