2018 PH-US Balikatan war games will include Australian and Japanese Troops

This is a good development. Philippines, Australia, Japan, and the United States of America.

The start of the administration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was a little bit shaky with respect to our relationship with our only mutual defense treaty ally the United States of America.

His decision to pivot to China was taken by many as a step away from America. In one of his speeches in 2016 the President said there will be no more  joint military exercises with the US, the war games for that year he said will be the “last one.”

And here we are two years after there will be a military exercise in Philippine shores with allies the Philippines with the United States of America, Australia, and Japan. The Armed Forces of the Philippines also invited the United Kingdom to be an observer in the training for mitigation of post-disaster suffering, according to the US Embassy here in Manila. Australia and Japan’s military forces will participate in all major training events.

The 34th Annual Balikatan military exercises will be held in multiple sites across the island of Luzon from May 7 to 18.

The focus of this year’s Balikatan will be on enhancing capabilities of both armed forces of the the two countries (PH-US).

"The training will emphasize mutual defense operations so both nations can more effectively employ forces and provide assistance in the event of crises that endanger public health and safety," the US Embassy said.

Prior to May7th, both US and Philippine military forces have started with community engagement activities. Both troops have began working on renovating five schools and conducting medical engagements with local residents in Luzon.

"These community outreach projects mark the beginning of several information exchanges and live training events between the two militaries," the US Embassy said in a statement.
