Former Pres. Marcos marks his 1st Undas in the Libingan ng mga Bayani


A different Undas for the Marcos family.

This marks the 1st Undas or the All Soul’s Day celebration of the former President Ferdinand Marcos  in the Libingan ng mga Bayani (Heroes Cemetery), since his death nearly 30 years ago.

The Marcos family headed by their matriarch Imelda Marcos held a mass near the tomb of the former president. It was last year the public was caught surprised that after the Supreme Court decision affirming the transfer and burial of the late strongman from Ilocos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani. *

Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos , Jr., sonand namesake of the late president, said the event is highly significant for their family.

"Mabuti naman at hanggang ngayon ay naalala pa ang kaniyang mga naitulong at nagawa para sa bansa sa panahon na siya'y buhay pa at nagseserbisyo," he said.

"I remember the moments of greatness during his presidency but also the moments of intimacy. I'm lucky to have known him in that regard, perhaps not the same as other people, but I had the benefit of knowing him as a father, as a person, as a man," he added.

The entire Marcos family was present except for the former dictator's daughter, Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos.

The younger Marcos also expressed gratefulness to their supporters and noted that it is important for the youth to study his father's presidency.

"Mabuti naman at naalala pa at napag-aaralan pa ng ating mga kabataan ang tungkol sa mga pangyayari," he said.

The Marcos tomb has been an attraction to people visiting the Libingan ng mga Bayani since the former strongman's hurried burial last year, it has become a tourist attraction in the Heroes cemetery.Many curious onlookers and many selfies are being done with the tomb of the former president as the back ground. *

The Supreme Court en banc voting 10-5 , allowed the transfer and burial of the former president in the Libingan ng mga Bayani. It was one of the campaign promises of President Rodrigo Duterte that he will allow the burial of Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani if he gets elected.
