Ozamiz City Police Chief Insp. Jovie Espenido just made
his warning shot to whoever will be the sitting local government official for
his next assignment- that they should immediately resign if they are involved
in the illegal drugs trade. When asked why they should resign, Espenido replied“Para
humaba buhay ba [So they can live longer]”.
Espenido’s shot to fame when he led the operation in
Ozamiz last June 30 which resulted to the death of Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo
Parojinog Sr. and 14 others.
He is also the local police chief when Albuera, leyte
Mayor Ronaldo Espinosa was killed inside his detention cell by police officers
who will be serving a search warrant, last November 2016.
Both Espinosa and Parojinog are alleged narco-politicians
in their respective area.
The Philippine National Police top brass has not decided
yet where he will be assigned next. In an interview PNP Chief Director General
Ronald M. dela Rosa said that Espenido is a sought-after official in the
campaign against illegal drugs, with local officials asking for his assignment
in their areas.
“Kung saan ako malagay, resign na
lang, kung involved [in illegal drugs], para humaba buhay,” Espenido told
reporters at the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday.
During the 116th Police Service
anniversary in Camp Crame, Espenido was given the PNP’s Individual Award for
Anti-Illegal Drugs Operation.
