Espenido’s shot to fame when he led the operation in Ozamiz last June 30 which resulted to the death of Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. and 14 others.

He is also the local police chief when Albuera, leyte Mayor Ronaldo Espinosa was killed inside his detention cell by police officers who will be serving a search warrant, last November 2016.

Both Espinosa and Parojinog are alleged narco-politicians in their respective area.

The Philippine National Police top brass has not decided yet where he will be assigned next. In an interview PNP Chief Director General Ronald M. dela Rosa said that Espenido is a sought-after official in the campaign against illegal drugs, with local officials asking for his assignment in their areas.

“Kung saan ako malagay, resign na lang, kung involved [in illegal drugs], para humaba buhay,” Espenido told reporters at the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday.
