“Wipe out communist rebels”
that is the President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s marching orders to the
Philippine National Police Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
The PNP Chief was the guest speaker at the general
membership meeting and induction of new
members of Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Cebu City Sports Club.
It might be remembered that in the president’s second (2nd)
State of the Nation Address, he lambasted the leftist group and has made it
clear he does not want to talk peace with the communist rebels, and publicly
stated that its founding chairman Jose Maria Sison is afflicted with a critical
disease- colon cancer.
PNP Chief after the event was able to talk to reporters re
the issue. He told the business group, which is the biggest in Cebu, that he
was instructed personally by the president to prepare and focus at the job at
hand- to wipe all the communist insurgents after the Marawi campaign is over- “whatever
it takes”.
The president who visits every wake of his fallen soldiers
and policemen, took the chance while in transit to attend such wake in
Dumaguete gave the instruction to the PNP chief.
“The President told me ‘you better get ready, we will wipe
out all NPA [members] after the problem in Marawi,” Dela Rosa said.
The New People’s Army (NPA) has been sowing chaos in the
different parts of the country despite Duterte’s open and willingness to talk
to them in finding a peaceful result to this more than fifty (50) years. The
ambush of the presidential convoy in Arakan, North Cotabato prior to the 2nd
SONA, seems to be the last straw for the president.
“I think nobody does not want peace. But if they want peace
they should go for peace. Not just they want peace talks but they keep on
attacking us,” the PNP chief referring to communist rebels.
