President Rodrigo Roa Duterte , in his speaking engagement
with the troops from the 102nd brigade of the 10th Infantry Division of the
Philippine Army in Saranggani, made no excuse of whatsoever in trying to convey
what is in his mind about the members of the extremists.
He presented a scenario wherein the extremists and their affiliates
surrenders to government.
“Where will I put them? They have to be in the jurisdiction
where they committed the crime. Simple as that. Kaya madagdagan ang problema,”
he said.
“Dapat, every encounter, patay lahat. Ayoko magdala ng
buhay, preso. Papakainin ko pa ‘yan (In every encounter, all should be dead. I
don’t want them taken prisoners. I will have to feed them),”the President said.
The president cites, the
budget need for the would be prisoners(
food, medicine, etc..), lack of jails in the city( that’s was either broken
down or completely destroyed), possibility of the other members to spring the
Maute members from detention , and the total disarray of the city brought about
by the battle.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, issued Proclamation No. 216
declaring the state of martial law and the suspension of the privilege of the
writ of habeas corpus in the whole island of Mindanao last May 23, 2017.
Such declaration was precipitated by the attacks made by the
Islamic-State-inspired Maute group, and has led to a fierce urban battle ground
of the city of Marawi. As of press time the battle is still on going on some
pockets of the city where the extremists have holed up. Casualties from the military,
civilians , and the extremists are at around 400 with thousands displaced.
Also during the activity, the President made his heartfelt
appreciation of his military.
“Anyway, I’m happy. My snappy salute. Snappy one for awardees
and to you,” he said. “Alam ko matitigas kayo. Matitigas ang ulo o matitigas
ang t***? Depende diyan kung saan kayo gusto (I know you are hard. Hard in head
or p***? It depends where you like it hard),” he said
“Everybody will get a medal one of these days. I know,
matitigas kayo and bilib ako sa sundalong Pilipino (You’re strong and I have
confidence in the Filipino soldier),” the Pres. said
